Starting a company and running it for what is 10 years now has been a crazy journey. Thank you to all my team, clients and candidates, I wouldn't be here today without you all. I've learnt many things along the way and continue to every day.

Finding great people to work with and share the experience has been immensely rewarding, more than I had ever imagined.

Building a company takes so much energy and discipline which helps me get things done. I think that the more quality things you can get done the more success you have, and that means being really organised.

After I decided to start my own firm, I resigned from my perfectly good job and showed up, ready to start working the very next day. I don’t feel perfect all the time, none of us do and I accept that, but I show up and push through. I try and push my business forward every day.

I think it’s important to have a vision, set goals and measure your progress as everything you do takes you a little closer to where you want to go. I have learnt that to make things work you have to do them over a sustained period of time and be patient. I think you need to have passion for what you do and enjoy all the parts of building a business.

As Warren Buffet said, “If you think you’ll be happy making twice the money you’re probably making a mistake”.

I think it’s important to stick at it and not to give up. It’s ok to change direction and pivot if you need, many entrepreneurs are doing that in the current environment, but keep at it. Most rational people would probably give up, and all too often, people give up too early.

I learnt early on to always believe in myself, continually learn and evolve, and to never listen to the naysayers. Everyone starts somewhere and everyone was a beginner at some point. To become elite in your chosen field, don’t be afraid to lose at things, there is nothing wrong with failing and we all have losses. I always look for the learning opportunity and just as importantly, I always pick myself up.

As the inspirational Nelson Mandela once said, “everything is always impossible until someone does it”

In life and business you will get a lot of rejection, be prepared for it and don’t let it overcome you or influence you. Try and be as enthusiastic on your hundredth pitch as you were on your first. I love this quote from Ted Turner which sums up the secret to success perfectly, “early to bed, early to rise, work like hell and advertise”.
