THE POWER OF ASKING QUESTIONS.

I have been fortunate to speak with such a diverse range of business leaders this past year.

It has also been a real privilege to lead my own organisation through the covid-19 era. It has afforded me many opportunities for personal reflection, learning, and development.

Asking questions and active listening have always been a fundamental part of my work in executive search, and from my perspective critical in leadership. You realise very quickly in times of uncertainty that you do not have all the answers, which is ok, and how powerful it is to ask questions.

Asking the right questions generates more options which makes for better decision making, and it helps you connect with others in a much deeper way, earning their trust. Talking with my executive coach helped me to see that although people look to you to lead; asking for help, showing vulnerability, and being human builds a culture of trust and innovative thinking which I have found invaluable.

Involving your employees, stakeholders, and customers in answering important questions about business has a huge impact on many levels. Many of the business leaders I have spoken to have commented that involving others through asking good questions has increased collaboration within their business and asking customers their opinion has brought a new level of trust to their respective businesses.

We found in our own business that during these uncertain times discussing the big questions brought us closer together as a team. As the post covid-19 era starts to emerge, this is certainly a tool I will be holding on to.

Client Feedback:
“For years I realised what was holding me back most was my lack of self-belief to ‘dare’ to contribute and challenge – especially in a larger group. I would often wait until meetings were over, but now feel comfortable to speak up and accept any potential push-backs for what they are and not take them personally.” – CEO Healthcare
