Transitioning Into Leadership
Do you know what your leadership is all about, and have you thought about what is important for you?
When I set about building my company I didn’t know what was really important for me. I’d spent time working for other leaders, some who were great, and my job has given me the privilege to work with and get to know some truly outstanding leaders. I wanted to understand what made them great and how I could develop my own leadership.
They all taught me many things. You have to have ability, know what you are doing, be curious, treat people fairly, and make good judgements that people respect. But I noticed other attributes about the best leaders that set them apart. They all had other inner qualities that were hard for me to define, and appeared essential. The types of qualities that draw you in, make you feel important, and have you following them whether they go.
- Passion
- Execution
- Patience
- Self-Awareness
- Empathy
These are a few of the key attributes I think are important for successful leadership. I found it was import to understand my own story, core values, and what I wanted my leadership to be about. It certainly takes time to evolve and that is ok. If you are transitioning into a leadership position, think about how your life story can shape what kind of leader you want to be.
